Last week proved to be a great success for me, as I set up two interviews with professionals and conducted one of them. I did not know exactly what to expect from the interview on Friday, but I was pleasantly surprised. The doctor I spoke with was so engaging and clearly possessed a passion for psychology. Now that I know the general work environment of the field, I can restructure my expectations and prepare more efficiently for my future meetings. The next step of my plan is to reach out to the referred professionals I was offered by Dr. Mitchell on Friday and to build my research tactics for both my assessments and interviews.
I also came to the realization that in order to put myself out there, I have to take steps that are not comfortable to take. I am generally a confident and self-driven individual who can communicate well, but the ISM experience has shown me that professionalism requires much more risk-taking than I have been manifesting. In order for me to get the opportunity that I know will heavily improve my experience, I need to push myself even more than I ever have. This is both a challenge and a promise to myself. I am anticipating the enhanced rigor that this upcoming six weeks will confront me with.
