Personal Potential & Reflections

Last week consisted of personal analysis and reflection. More specifically, I spent a lot of my time analyzing and practicing my professional skills and composing my semester goals. However, my week in ISM started with an informational interview on Monday with Jeffrey Siegel, a practicing clinical and forensic psychologist in Dallas.

Mr./Dr. Siegel provided me with tons of insight regarding his current work as well as his past services. We discussed the misrepresentation of forensic psychology that the media has displayed. Additionally, he gave me an inside look behind the real difficulties that he faces in his work. (I will be covering this time in more detail in my assessment on the interview with him).

Following this interview was the business symposium at Independence High School on Wednesday. This event allowed me to gain practice in professionalism, which is always beneficial, and also served as an opportunity to receive feedback on my communication/interview skills and résumé critique. In my opinion, the main sentiment was that being passionate for the career you choose (forensic psychology in my case) will excel you towards satisfaction in the future.

Finally, the last highlight of last week was proposing my plan for original work. At first, like many other students, I felt at lost for what I wanted my central focus of the semester to be. I was interested in eyewitness testimony, as well as studying Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It was not until I turned to the media that I had a type of epiphany. In light of recent news, I felt inspired to take a closer look into the components of sexual abuse. I feel motivated to begin further research on this issue, as it affects the lives of many today.
