I have been conducting lots of informative secondary research that has really benefited my understanding of clinical psychology and what it is that I want to study in depth. My development and progress is going well, but I am not exactly where I want to be regarding mentor status. I have come to the understanding that most of the professionals that I have been looking towards are extremely swamped. While I am pleased that the field is thriving, I did not fully recognize the obstacles that I would be facing with this. Many forensic psychologists in the Dallas/Fort Worth area work at the federal prison and cannot conduct meetings with a high school student in their work environment.
Nonetheless, I received a message last week from a doctor who works for the Federal Bureau of Prisons that I have had my eye on. Her work experience is heavily aligned with the work that I am passionate about studying. She was so generous as to offer to meet me for an interview. She has helped former students in the ISM program in the past and was more than happy to help me. I will be meeting with her this Friday in Fort Worth and I am feeling very optimistic.
