This evening, I met with Dr. Correa to discuss a variety of topics that serve as assistance in my final product. We also discussed her experience at a recent forensic psychology conference she attended last week. The three conferences were over insanity evaluations, risk assessment, and expert witness testimony. One of the speakers, a well-respected psychologist, demonstrated her approach to evaluation. Her preference is to rely heavily on clinical judgement as opposed to psychological testing. Ideally, these two measures should be balanced, and slight variation may occur, depending on your stylistic preferences. Dr. Correa also discussed the issue of risk assessment of life sentencing. This led to the conversation of knowing what your boundaries are as a psychologist are in relation to the code of ethics and keeping a principled outlook. We went over a vignette that she obtained during one of the conferences, which was a sample sanity report. The vignette had a series of questions and prompts for the purpose of guiding someone through the thought process used by professionals.
Dr. Correa also completed my research portfolio evaluation, commenting on my use of reliable, credible research and effective evaluation and analysis. Additionally, she informed me on some relevant cases she has dealt with recently.
