My past week in ISM was focused on virtual research and networking. I have recently been doing some of my own research any time I get the chance, apart from the assessment guidelines. Last weekend, I read up on the American Psychological Association guidelines for forensic psychology to get a perspective that reflects a practitioner’s point of view. I believe that annotating these was helpful for my understanding of the role that forensic and clinical practitioners play, especially in a legal and ethical sense. Getting into the habit of annotating while reading has strengthened my ability to be an active reader in any given scenario. Another topic of research I conducted work on was over sexual harassment, in preparation for my plans regarding my original work.
On Tuesday, the 9th, I had my first phone interview. I was able to converse with Dr. Mary-Madison Eagle about her experience as a forensic psychologist. Not only did she provide me with useful information that I could build off on, she also genuinely seemed excited to talk to me. I received a referral to a colleague of hers, whom I will be reaching out to soon. In addition to this referral, I have been reaching out to many professionals, both in and out of forensic psychology. I have decided that it would be in my best interest to reach out to professionals who are in relevant career fields, as well as practitioners who are out of my 20 mile radius. I have found that there are so many people around the states that have great information that can help me in my long term career goals.
