So far, my learning experience in ISM has only just begun. Over the past week, I completed my first research assessment over a forensic psychology outlook and practiced my annotation strategies. This also allowed me to tap into my critical thinking skills and abilities by not only assessing what forensic psychology is all about, but also by asking myself what it was that I wanted to gain. I needed to establish what I was aimed at learning. Not only do I wish to gain a proper understanding of the field I am studying, but I also am hoping to gain an abundance of critical skills that will be of benefit to me for almost everything I do in my future.
As for setbacks that I face, being new to the program signifies my lack of experience in the “real world” of professionalism, which includes reaching out to specialists independently. I am unsure of what this program holds for me entirely, but I know that in order to benefit from it to the full potential I need to put my work in and step out of my comfort zone. I need also to remind myself that I will most likely be turned down or dismissed by some, and that is okay.
My targets for the upcoming weeks are to further research professionals in the field and possibly reach out to a new professional every other day, or at least 2-3 individuals a week. My goal is to connect with as many respected psychologists as I can for the purpose of gaining insight, both unique anecdotes and collective knowledge.
