Finding the Perfect Mentor

As mentioned in my blog post from last week, I recently had an interview with Dr. Amor Correa in Fort Worth. This interview was a great success which brought me lots of inspiration and even more passion for the field. I contacted her last Thursday, asking if she would be my mentor and on Sunday, she accepted. I am so thrilled to have such an amazing person for my mentor as her. After my interview with her, I immediately knew that I could gain so much knowledge and insight from her.
Aside from this achievement of the week, I also came to the conclusion that I wanted to modify my original work. Instead of focusing on my original topic of sexual abuse and trauma, I wanted to focus on a topic that is on the direct tracks of forensic psychology. I plan to shift my original work towards the insanity defense. This is a widely-discussed yet misrepresented issue, especially in the public eye and in popular culture. I think that a visual representation of what it is, how it originated, and how it functions in the legal system would be relevant and beneficial to today’s climate. I hope to work closely with Dr. Correa to gain the proper understanding of this topic and yield a helpful representation to display this acquired information.
