Since my mentor visit last Monday, I have been able to look over the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders (5th edition) since Dr. Correa was able to bring me a copy of the desk reference version to borrow. This has helped me understand the nuances of each disorder which are commonly grouped under the title of schizophrenia. There are many differences in these mental disorders, and they become more and more apparent as I learn more about them.
Over the weekend, I was able to do some research on different famous profiles and various landmark cases. This has helped me build inspiration for the vignettes that I will produce over the next two months. This evening at my mentor visit, I hope to discuss with Dr. Correa the cases that I took notes on and the legal standards for the federal level. Since legal standards differ for each jurisdiction, I have decided to keep all of my assessments based on the federal standards. This will also be beneficial because these are the standards that are used by my mentor, so she will be familiar with their terms.
I hope to collect plenty of feedback from Dr. Correa about the research I collected so that I can maximize my production during spring break.
