Last week, Dr. Correa and I met up to review both the MacCAT-CA and the ECST-R test instruments which are used in cases of competency to stand trial as an objective multi-scale inventory. Both tests were aligned to the Dusky standard for trial competency, with each having their own set of pros and cons. I really enjoyed being able to see the actual format of these tests, as I was able to for the MMPI-2 and the SIRS earlier on. In addition to these tests, we talked about basic components of an assessment as well as confidentiality in the therapeutic setting versus the forensic setting where there is virtually no confidentiality. I was able to grasp all of this information by conducting my assessment over our visit which helped me comprehend everything more. This Wednesday, I will see my mentor in Fort Worth for our meeting where I hope to discuss some elements of the other types of assessments used in a forensic setting. On my own, I will be working on drafting my final product and setting up the basic elements for each component. It will be a challenge for me to establish my actual foundation, but it is necessary in order to receive any kind of substantive feedback from my mentor and also through self-reflection.
